Sunshine

Bard of Caid Composition Piece, 2008

Once more I wake and greet the sun
Your words still in my ear
And shake the night dreams from my head
And wish that you were near

Try though I might these thoughts not chaste
Have filled my head again
For your bright eyes have pierced my soul
Sharp as sword or pen

"See yourself through my eyes"
This mirror of silver shall be
A constant light and memory sweet
Of your last words to me

Your eyes see me like none before
With merit and beauty the same
And my heart thrills to see your glance
And hear you say my name

So many years have flown right by
Since youthful days of old
And though my hair is silver now
This lesson must be told

"See yourself through my eyes"
This mirror of silver shall be
A constant light and memory sweet
Of your last words to me

When rain clouds gather in my head
I think of your sunshine
And see this mirror bright on my desk
And remember you so fine

"See yourself through my eyes"
This mirror of silver shall be
A constant light and memory sweet
Of your last words to me

Notes: The rules of this challenge were to include the three words: "Silver," "Chaste," and "Merit" ... with bonus extra credit points if we could use the extra word "Lentil." Alas, I couldn't find any way to add lentils to this song. *grin*

I'm told this piece put me over the top, when I won the Bard of Caid at this competition. I'm really quite proud of the piece.
