Amidst the oaks and the pounding surf and sea
The eagle sought to bring home the victory
With roses to crown his lady so dear
Sweet golden dragon and double-peer

The counterchanged cross loomed on first field
To honor the cat, he would not yield
But the eagle struck true and took the fight
And first round victory was in his sight

Short-lived was first round’s bragging rights
When lozengy and inverted chevron entered his sights
For the island lass of blue annulets three
Carried home the honor of the victory

Girded fresh with love from his lady true
The eagle went out to the field anew

A Lady and Knight of crescents white
Steeled against a good and hearty fight
But though the sloth inspires her well
The eagle triumphed and the good knight fell

A young lad of red and gold, of island lands
Sought to crown the sunny lion with his hands
But the eagle proved the dragon once more
And once again increased his victor’s score

When a winged serpent and bare ferocity
Stood to bar the eagle from further victory
The desert lass of bells the honor received
And the eagle’s sword was once more sheathed

Girded fresh with love from his lady true
The eagle will some day take the field anew

in service to fair Caid, and to the great amusement of her encouraging friends.

Notes: The Circle of Bards of Caid publish poems in honor of each fighter in Crown Lists and distribute the poems at Coronation. This poem was written as a last minute piece when I was asked to fill in for a poem that hadn't been completed. I'm fairly proud of being able to write a piece for my own local Baron.
